New Games Room opens in memory of Teddy Read

7th October 2023 saw not only 'Hub Fest' but the official opening of our glorious new games room for young people.

Last year, in November 2022, we lost our much-loved young member, Teddy Read. His

sudden death, from complications due to epilepsy, shocked everyone who knew him and loved him at The Hub. His passion for life, his kindness, humour and enthusiasm, helping out at events, decorating the building (and himself) with his art, litter picking for the community and just enjoying spending time with friends and volunteers at youth sessions - he left us with memories we will never forget.

Teddy was a vital part of The Hub and so, thanks to kind donations from his family, friends and local businesses, we decided to give our old, tired games room a re-vamp in his honour. Transformed from rather unsanitary, red carpet tiles and a scrappy game or two on a couple of dodgy tables, we now have a dedicated, modern space with gaming stations and consoles. There's a new screen for films and quiz nights, funky coloured low-lights and still room for our traditional pool table, air-hockey and bean bags for chilling out.

The new room has had a massive thumbs-up from the young people. Photos of Hub youth nights and stars written by each one of our young people now adorn the walls and make this firmly 'their place'. Come and take a look for yourselves during a Tuesday or Thursday evening youth session!

With thanks from the trustees to Lime Designs, Esher Scaffolding, The Co-op, Brewers Paint, Champion Timber and not least to family and friends of Teddy Read as well as our wonderful Hub volunteers!
