On the first Tuesday of every term we have volunteer training at Claygate Youth & Community Hub.
This Tuesday, 18th April we have a visit from PC Phil Jebb, Youth engagement officer for Surrey Police. He and his team cover 60+ schools across Surrey. He talked about County Lines, Criminal Behaviour Orders, Youth Intervention and Safeguarding in Elmbridge and what all this means to young people.
As a place for young people to meet, The Hub has a safeguarding duty to pick up on 'small niggles' as he put it - any signs that things may not be quite as they seem.
Phil is a regular to The Hub, often popping in for a game of pool or just to say hi, as well as bringing along police cadets and police dogs for a visit. He has previously come to a Hub session earlier in the year to talk with our young people in an informal Q&A session, so he is well known to our members in a positive way.
"The Hub has done some amazing work with offering young people opportunities to engage outside of school and home and we support them wherever we can," Phil said. " We shouldn't just give up on children, we believe there is always a chance if we persevere"
Thank you Phil for taking the time to visit us once again, for your insights and passion for our young community members.
